The Truth On Staying Fit Without A Gym Membership
This post goes out to Angela. Honestly, you don’t need your gym membership to get or stay in shape. And this is coming from a personal trainer. In this post I’ll list 7 quick thoughts on getting and staying fit. Ditch the gym, get a better workout and save some moolah each month. Here’s my dish:
The bottom line is, you DON’T need a gym membership to get or stay fit. Most if not all the equipment found in most gym’s are pretty useless. Unfortunately most gyms are set up to make you believe that you actually need 50 different machines to get a good workout. And matter of fact…
…You can lose weight, get a lean and stronger body with absolutely no equipment whatsoever by using your own body weight. Think, push-ups, squats, lunges, pull-ups, and jumping jacks. But if you must, a stability ball, stretch band, or a few dumbbells is about all you need.
Whether you’re in the gym, outside, in your home, or working out with the Wii, getting and staying in shape requires relentless motivation, a persistent positive attitude, and some good tunes.
No matter what workout routine your following, how many miles you run, or push-ups you can do, you CANNOT and WILL NOT change your body if you keep eating junk. Period. Focus on eating whole, unprocessed and organic foods. Ex-nay boxed and canned anything.
Get an accountability partner, someone who’s gonna give you a helping hand to support you and also kick in the pants when you need it. Social support makes a world of difference, so find a good friend, co-worker, or fam member to help you along the way. E-mail each other, blog about your workouts, Twitter about it. Whatever it takes.
Get a full-body, fat burning, metabolism boosting workout and enjoy the outdoors at the same time. Go hiking, biking, canoeing, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, spelunking. You get the picture.
Don’t be lazy. Sometimes the convenience of working out at home can be too good to be true. And sometimes the idea of working out at home sounds a lot easier than it really is. Here’s the dish, just like you need to make time to workout at the gym, the same holds true for working out at home, and even more so. Hold yourself accountable and be strict with your workout time at home, i.e. tv, roomates, kids, Facebook, etc. Set a schedule, stick to it, and don’t let anything, get in your way.
The truth is, you don’t need your gym membership to get and stay fit. But keep in mind that a poor diet, lack of motivation, and a wish-washy commitment, will out do any workout routine, indoors or out.
